Purpose

This post below was penned by us in 2011 and posted on our wedding website for all of our guests to see. Although our guests were our beloved friends and family who were thrilled to celebrate this wonderful day with us, we wanted to share with them the best news that we have ever received – which was the good news of Jesus Christ! It was our wholehearted desire that our wedding would be a platform that this news could be magnified – and all of these years later, our desire is the same. We hope and pray that every person who comes upon this blog would be able to clearly see that there is truly no hope, joy, or lasting satisfaction/purpose in this life apart from Christ.

We hope you will take the time to read these words that these silly, naive, foolish but sincere 21 & 22 year olds wrote for the people they loved most in their lives! We love you all.

In Christ,
Eugene & Sharon  (2020)

Marriage is awesome and it is definitely a blessing, but we want to share with you the even greater purpose behind why we decided to commit ourselves to marriage.

We believe that God is holy, righteous and perfect. He created the universe and everything in it, including you and me. He created us to live for His glory He created us to live in perfect harmony with him and to experience the full joy of knowing our God and Creator. But there is a problem!

The problem is our sin. We are all imperfect, disobedient, prideful and self-seeking in the nature of who we are. We have sinned against the Almighty God and therefore our sin is no small misdemeanor. As sinners before a Holy God, we are fully deserving of punishment and eternal damnation. Before a Holy, and perfectly righteous God there was no good we could ever  do to attain freedom from the penalty that was rightly due to us for our disobedience against the God who created us. There was nothing we could do to save ourselves…
but there is hope!!

The “good news” is that God loves us and has shown us great, great mercy! He sent His own Son, Jesus Christ, to save us and to pay the cost for our disobedience and sinfulness. He lived the life we could not live, and paid the price that we could never pay. Christ bore our punishment and our wrath when He was crucified on the cross. In three days, he rose again from the dead to demonstrate that he conquered over both sin and death, disarming its powers over us.

We have experienced what it means to see the depravity of our own sins and to feel completely helpless before God. Yet, he has given us full assurance that through Christ we have been cleansed of all of our sins and have been given access to have a relationship with Him. God is so gracious and so merciful.

“God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

This is really good, excellent, awesome news.. Through Christ, we have freedom from the penalty we deserved, freedom from the bondage of sin and the freedom to live life with purpose, joy and eternal hope.
We believe that God created marriage, and that the highest meaning and ultimate purpose of our marriage is to display the covenant relationship that Christ has with us, His church. We know that the primary purpose for marriage is to be a living, breathing reflection of the “good news” that God has given to us in the gospel. We desire with all our hearts to have a marriage that reflects the sacrificial, unconditional love and grace that Christ has shown us in the gospel.

There is no true hope, joy or fulfillment in this life that comes apart from knowing Christ. We hope that by God’s grace,  our married lives will serve to display how loving, gracious and awesome our Savior is. The purpose of this blog is to show you our lives as we live our day to day lives. We wish to share with you our joys, our challenges, our circumstances, our celebrations, our trials…in hope that in the midst of our strife to live our lives seeking our full joy in Christ alone, we can help you see just how faithful and powerful and awesome our God really is.
We pray God will be honored, glorified and magnified through our lives and this blog as well. We earnestly hope and pray that you will also experience the joy of knowing Christ in your own life, and that you can join us in worshiping the Savior with our lives.
