one of my resolutions this year is to start homeschooling asher. he just turned 4, and since he first entered toddlerhood i have been so excited about starting school with him.
when he was two, i started researching different types of things i could do at home and purchased a couple of tot-school curriculums – but didn’t get around to doing it. i was passionate about making learning fun and spending time with asher in this capacity.
fast-forward two years – and my ambitions and dreams were lofty but practically it was hard for me to see it through. life got busy and always being on the go prevented us from spending much intentional time learning together at home. now that he is entering that pre-k age, i’ve been trying to be better about establishing more of a routine at home and it’s been wonderful!
though i would generally be against pushing worksheets or things that are too ‘academic’ at a young age when play is really their main source of “work” – for some strange reason, asher really enjoys worksheets. so the last couple of weeks have been spent looking up different worksheets for free and i’ve also fancied the idea of creating my own. however, i decided to bite the bullet and purchase a set from Moffatt girls. I loved that it was no-prep and that i can easily print them out and not have to do any extra work to get it ready for him!
of course, he is still 4. so his attention span is not the greatest and he gets pretty restless, especially when things are a little too challenging. so i’ve been trying to let him lead the show, at least for the most part, and when he gets discouraged or bored i try to add an extra twang to make it exciting for him. for example, he got tired of writing his name on the top of the page so he asked if he could stamp a dot for each letter of his name instead. SURE, WHY NOT.
he also got bored of filling out the missing letters of this beginning and endings worksheet so he started writing random numbers next to the pictures and words saying, “this is how much these boots cost, mommy”. so I taught him how to write the dollar sign and we decided to give a price for the item after he filled the missing letters for each picture. we only did the first three and now he’s called it quits for the day but i love the idea of letting him lead, for now!
now he’s putting glitter dots on each of these numbers that i wrote out while counting out loud because obbbbbviously glitter glue makes everything more fun, lol.

cheers to learning together and having fun!
excited for this year ahead!
